Securing Agriculture's Workforce Act of 2026
Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-PA) sponsored this bill to expand the H-2A agricultural visa program by removing the seasonal work requirement, allowing year-round agricultural employment, and broadening eligible work types to include reforestation, aquaculture, and livestock operations. The bill creates a pathway for current unauthorized agricultural workers to obtain H-2A visas if they meet other requirements, establishes a national online job registry and employer platform for labor certification and visa processing, and codifies the current wage calculation method to ensure H-2A workers earn rates that do not harm similarly employed U.S. workers. The bill also requires the Government Accountability Office to conduct reviews and directs the Department of Agriculture to issue rules defining qualifying agricultural labor.
