In plain English

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) sponsors this bill authorizing a land exchange between the Chugach Alaska Corporation, an Alaska Native regional corporation, and the federal government. If Chugach conveys approximately 231,000 acres of subsurface rights to the Department of the Interior within one year, Interior must transfer approximately 65,374 acres of federal fee simple land in the Chugach region (including portions of the Kenai Peninsula and Prince William Sound area) to Chugach in return. Chugach must exclude from its conveyance any land where a village corporation has retained development rights or land designated for shareholder homesite programs, not to exceed 209 acres total. The bill directs the department to prepare maps, estimates, and descriptions of the lands involved in the exchange.
