Connected Vehicle Security Act of 2026
S. 4429, sponsored by Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), blocks the importation, manufacture, sale, and resale of connected vehicles and their software and hardware components if they are associated with China, Russia, Iran, or North Korea. The bill expands existing Commerce Department regulations to cover Iran and North Korea in addition to China and Russia, and explicitly includes artificial intelligence components in the prohibition. By January 1, 2027, the Commerce Department must publish a list of items that are permitted despite the ban. The bill establishes civil penalties for violations and requires coordination among federal agencies and use of existing advisory bodies to implement the restrictions.
