✆
In plain English
This bill requires voters to show valid physical photo identification to receive a ballot in federal elections, sponsored by Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH). Voters without photo ID can cast a provisional ballot, but it only counts if they provide the required ID or a religious objection affidavit within three days. For mail, early, and absentee voting, voters must submit either a copy of their photo ID or their last four Social Security digits with an affidavit stating they cannot obtain ID despite reasonable efforts, with exemptions for overseas military voters and certain disabled or elderly voters. States must make digital imaging devices available so voters can obtain free copies of valid photo identification, and the requirements take effect one day after enactment.
